Early Printed Books
The Library's holdings of works printed before 1850, more than 20,000 in total, have been catalogued electronically on OLIS. Records produced by staff from the Early Printed Books Project conform to the exacting OLIS-antiquarian standard. They include descriptions of signatures, bindings, fragments found in bindings, bookplates, marginal notes and other provenance information.
Early printed books may be consulted on application to the Librarian. Library staff will be happy to give instruction to Junior Members in handling antiquarian material.
