Scholarships

Eight Choral Scholars are elected and enjoy:

  • A scholarship of £300 per annum
  • A subsidy of up to £360 per annum for singing lessons
  • Singing at services as well as in the choir tours, concerts, and recording sessions
  • Assisting with the administration of choir events and its music library.

Usually organ scholars are elected every two out of three years. St John’s is participating in the organ trials in 2012. Only music students may apply, but applications may be made for both entry in 2013 and deferred entry in 2014.

 Organ scholars enjoy:

  • A scholarship of £500 per annum
  • A subsidy for organ and conducting lessons
  • A room in college with a piano throughout their undergraduate career (to be paid at normal rates)
  • Free dinners on Sundays in term and at feasts
  • Responsibility under the Chaplain for running the Chapel's music programme, and for auditioning, training and conducting the choir.
