Choral Scholars
We have eight Choral Scholarships of £300 pa, and scholars also receive a subsidy of up to £360 pa for singing lessons. These scholarships are open to male and female applicants, who wish to study any academic subject. Up to three of the eight scholarships may be held by graduate students. Choral Scholars are selected for their musical competence and their willingness to play a responsible role in the Choir. They have good sight-reading ability, can lead their section and are competent to sing solos when required. Their responsibilities include attending all services sung by the Choir and the preceding rehearsals (a commitment of about six hours per week) and being available for Choir tours, concerts, and recording sessions. They assist the Organ Scholars with the administration of the Choir and its activities, and its music library.
The current St John’s Choral Scholars are a lively and friendly group of people, whose academic profiles reflect the wide range of subjects that the college has to offer – from Archaeology and Anthropology, through Medicine to PPE. If you’d like to chat about becoming a Choral Scholar, please email the current Organ Scholar.
