‘The Golden Fish’ was an opera for children created and performed by Oxford students. It was based on an old Russian folktale called ‘The Fisherman and His Wife’ and featured two music students from St John’s.
To create the opera, Garsington Opera Education held workshops for the company of 18 and then the resulting ideas were taken to children at local Primary schools. These sessions generated a lot of the text and stage design ideas. Later, the team of half a dozen composers within the company created the score. The resulting opera ‘The Golden Fish’ was performed to an audience of 240 children in the St John's auditorium in January 2011.
