Helen Austin

Name: Helen Austin
Subject: Classics
Year in College: Second
Home Town: Worcester
Interests and Activities: I’m the College’s Welfare Officer and a Peer Supporter. I’m really involved in both the JCR and making sure everyone in College is happy and well looked after. As part of this I’m also currently organising Freshers’ Week. I’m also a member of the Corpus Christi String Orchestra (I play viola) and have played with SASJO a couple of times.
Career Aspirations: I’m still undecided, but I’m interested in the Teach First programme as I am thinking of becoming a teacher. I’m also interested in continuing to be involved in welfare and I am thinking of training as a counsellor.
Favourite thing about SJC: I love the lively, welcoming atmosphere and being a part of the JCR and helping to make the College better for the students. College events such as bops, guest dinners etc make the whole experience really memorable.
How can alumni support help the College? By supporting us they can help to make sure that the standard of teaching will only get better and the unique style of learning does not have to suffer under the government’s cuts. Maintaining and improving the College puts constant pressure on its finances, so alumni can help make sure that the College remains the great place to live and work that they will remember from their own time here.
