Accommodation and Meals
Accommodation
The College provides accommodation for all its undergraduates and all first year graduate students who come from outside Oxford, with some additional rooms available for graduate students in their subsequent years of study. Rooms are allocated by the Domestic Office to newcomers to the College but in subsequent years a ballot system is operated by the JCR and MCR committees. Rooms come in a variety of sizes and are priced accordingly, ranging from £759.28 to £905.51 per term. All students living in College additionally pay a fixed charge of £182.50 per term.
Some flats are available for those students who are living full-time with a partner (i.e. both parties must live in the flat as their sole accommodation). Flats will be allocated by the Domestic Office to students in their first year but in subsequent years a ballot system is operated by the MCR Committee; this will be open to existing tenants and to those students who have been in single accommodation and who subsequently wish to move to a flat with a partner. Students with children/dependants will not be expected to enter the ballot system and will be guaranteed their accommodation for the first three years of their study.
Internet Access
Most rooms come equipped with ethernet connections. Read more about computing at St John’s.
Laundry
Washing machines and driers are available for use in the basement of staircases N3 and the Sir Thomas White Building, staircase 3, Middleton Hall and the Garden Quad laundry room. (Note: Sheets and duvet covers are supplied and laundered by the College). The machines operate by Smart Cards available from a pay station at the Main Lodge.
Guest Rooms
There are two twin-bedded guest rooms for the use of current students. These may be booked through the Porters' Lodge.
Room Bookings
Students wishing to organise an event in College may book the Prestwich and Larkin Rooms. To do so, they should contact Lynda Morgan, who can be found in her office on the Buttery Staircase on week day mornings. Catering requests should be filed seven days in advance.
