Professor Simon Whittaker
Tutorial Fellow in Law
Teaching Interests
Currently, I give undergraduate lectures comparing aspects of the French and English laws of contract and contribute to a graduate seminar on contract in ‘European Private Law.’ I give tutorials in English contract law and tort law and the comparative law of contract.
Research Interests
My research interests lie principally within the same areas as my teaching. So, some of my work is in English contract or tort law, for example, on controlling unfair contract terms in consumer contracts or in the tort of negligence, but recently my main interest has been to compare the way in which lawyers from different European legal systems deal with similar questions and on EU harmonisation of laws in these areas. To this end I have worked on French law in particular, but I have also collaborated with jurists from a number of other European countries.
