Research Interests

I’m interested in how the interactions between DNA, and the histone proteins that package it into chromatin, work together to control gene expression. Over the past few years I’ve worked (together with Prof. Chris Schofield, Oxford Chemistry Research Laboratory, and the Structural Genomics Consortium) to develop selective chemical probes for histone demethylases, a key set of enzymes that are involved in these regulatory processes. My current work focuses on the interactions between histone modifications, the enzymes that catalyse them, and unique regions of the genome known as CpG islands, and is carried out in Dr Rob Klose’s laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry.
