Teaching Interests
I teach a range of subjects within Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, and currently provide teaching for the papers Texts and Contexts, Greek Sculpture, Greek Art and Archaeology, Roman Art under the Empire, and Sexuality and Gender in Greece and Rome. I have also been convenor of the University's Greek Archaeology Group seminar series, which presents fortnightly papers to Faculty and postgraduate audience, since 2009.
Research Interests
I have a wide range of interests in Greek and Roman material culture, especially figurative art. My doctoral thesis on body language in Hellenistic art explored the potential of non-verbal communication to illuminate ancient social behaviour. This is currently being revised for publication by OUP as part of the series Oxford Studies in Ancient Culture & Representation.
Having read Classics as my first degree, I am keen to combine textual and archaeological evidence, and enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues from different disciplines. My three forthcoming chapters in Angelos' Chaniotis' Unveiling Emotions volume result from two years as Postdoctoral Researcher in Archaeology for the ERC-funded project The Social and Cultural Construction of Emotion: The Greek Paradigm, where I worked in team with epigraphers, papyrologists, literary historians and ancient historians.
