The BBC TV Songs of Praise team, and presenter Aled Jones, recently filmed in St John's. The resulting footage will be shown in the Easter special on BBC One, which is billed as 'a feast of Easter hymns'. The programme will also feature the story of Jesus’ resurrection read from the King James Bible by actors Bill Paterson and Tamsin Greig. All of Aled's pieces to camera were filmed in St John's College at various locations.
The hymns featured in the programme will be sung by the congregation at Wesley Memorial Church in Oxford and Wallingford Parish Church Choir, plus there will be performances from acclaimed mezzo-soprano Melanie Marshall and classical chart-topping tenor, Wynne Evans.
Location Director of the programme, Rowan Morton-Gledhill said:
"I must say how very grateful I am to the Bursar and his staff for so readily giving us permission to film. The 'can do' professionalism and friendly welcome shown to my team and me by the Chaplain and the Library staff - and by the College Porters - made this filming a real pleasure. Thank you so much!"
