Visiting Times

Members of the public are welcome to visit St John's College (to see Front Quad, Canterbury Quad, the Garden, the Chapel, and the newly-completed Kendrew Quad) from 1 to 5pm daily, or until dusk in the winter. Entry is through the main Lodge on the east side of St Giles, or (for the Kendrew Quad) through the Kendrew Lodge some 200 metres north. Please note that tour groups of more than 14 people must make prior arrangements with the College Lodge: +44 (0)1865 277300.

Holders of an Oxford Alumni Card may visit St John's College free of charge with up to three guests, at any time during daylight hours. Please present your Alumni Card to the lodge porter on arrival.

The College is closed to visitors on Christmas and Boxing Day. Very occasionally, parts of College are closed off because of events or for safety reasons.

  • Note: For specific information about Open Days and school visits, please see the Open Days and Visits page in our Prospective Students section.

Parking

Oxford is an historic, pedestrian-friendly city which is best explored on foot. A small amount of Pay-and-Display parking is available on St Giles, but visitors are encouraged to use our Park-and-Ride bus facilities on the outskirts rather than bringing a car into the city centre. Park-and-Ride facilities include Pear Tree, Woodstock Road (north); Water Eaton (north); Seacourt, Botley Road (west); Redbridge, Abingdon Road (south); and Thornhill, London Road (east), although please be aware that they too can be very limited both in terms of spaces and length of stay. Find out more about our Park and Ride system. The College is only a ten minute walk from the train station and a five minute walk from the coach station so these may be easier options. We have maps in the Related Links on the right of this page.
