Below is some useful information for new (and returning) students on how to activate your Single Sign On (SSO) account and how to set up Eduroam WiFi.

Activating your Oxford Single Sign-On (SSO) account

You need your activation code, SSO username and either your student number or University card barcode number in order to go through this procedure.

1. Access the Web Authentication Service at https://webauth.ox.ac.uk

2. Use the Activate a new account option to set a password for your Oxford Single Sign-On account.

3. Set a security question and answer in case you ever forget your password

The lifetime of the activation code is given on your letter and will be between 30 and 60 days. If the activation code has expired, you can ask for it to be unexpired at the IT office.

Forgotten Single Sign-On (SS0) account password

1. Access the Web Authentication Service at https://webauth.ox.ac.uk

2. Use the Reset a forgotten password option to set a password for your Oxford Single Sign-On account.

Set up remote access password (once you have set up your SSO and required for Eduroam WiFi)

The password you use for VPN and Eduroam is the remote access password. Go to www.it.ox.ac.uk and follow the manage passwords and accounts link near the top of the page. Log in with your SSO credentials.

Once logged in there will be a link to change a remote access (eduroam/VPN) account password. Click on this and you can set up a new password or change an existing password. You do not need to provide the existing one to change the password.

Configuring Eduroam WiFi

IT Services have information on configuring Eduroam for your device. http://help.it.ox.ac.uk/network/wireless/services/eduroam/index

Here is a quick guide to getting on online with Eduroam:

1. Visit the Eduroam CAT website at: https://cat.eduroam.org

2. Click the 'eduroam user: download your eduroam installer' button at the bottom of the webpage.

3. Search 'University of Oxford' (note that the  installers for other institutions will not work with your OXFORD credentials!).

4. You will then be presented with various installers – choose your operating system.

5. Once the installer has downloaded run the installer program.

6. When prompted for username and password make sure you append @OX.AC.UK to your username (e.g. sjoh9999@OX.AC.UK )

7. Once installed (and you are within range of an Eduroam Wireless network) you may be prompted to enter your user credentials again – as a final security check; after which your computer / device will remember your password so you don’t have to keep typing it in.

Eduroam - Additional information for iPhone and iPad users

Before you begin - If you have used the Eduroam CAT in the past then you may need to delete the previously installed Eduroam profile.

Go to Settings > General > Profile > Eduroam > Delete Profile

Here is what to do to get your Apple iOS device on to Eduroam

1. Connect to a wireless network, which is not Eduroam, eg your home wireless (or OWL if you are within Oxford).

If you connect to OWL then you will be prompted for OWL visitor Credentials. Just press Cancel and then select “Use Without Internet“. (You may need to Cancel and then reconnect to OWL a couple of times in order to bring up the “Use Without Internet” option.)

2. Open Safari on your iOS device

3. Go to https://cat.eduroam.org

4. Complete the dropdown fields making sure you select “University of Oxford”

5. Then download the autoconfig file

6. Follow the onscreen instructions and enter your REMOTE ACCESS credentials

Remember to append @OX.AC.UK to your username so that you can use Eduroam at other institutions

NB – make sure you use Safari on your iOS device
