Successive generations of historians return to St John's

History graduates from London to the United States returned to St John’s for the recent inaugural History Dinner.

The Reverend Professor William Whyte, Tutorial Fellow in History, hosted the evening. He was joined by historians from the St John’s academic community both past and present, including Sir Keith Thomas, Dr Ross McKibbin, Professor Hannah Skoda and Dr Antonia Fitzpatrick. The event brought together successive generations of historians – with matriculation years from 1952 to 2017.

Professor Whyte observed:

'As is only to be expected from historians, the conversation was excellent and the evening greatly enjoyable. Perhaps most interesting to see was the sheer range of occupations for which the subject prepares you. Here were teachers and lecturers, lawyers and journalists, bankers, business people, politicians and a professional kickboxer. The whole event was a great success and we hope to do it all again in two years’ time.'
