Dr David Seifert

Supernumerary Teaching Fellow in Mathematics

Before joining St John's I was an undergraduate at Hertford College and then a graduate student at Balliol College, where I completed my DPhil in 2014.

Teaching Interests

My teaching interests lie mainly in pure and applied analysis. I give tutorials on calculus and related areas of physical applied mathematics, and also on some topics in pure mathematics.

Research Interests

I am a member of the Mathematical Institute's Functional Analysis group and my primary research interest is in an area of analysis called operator theory. In particular, I study the asymptotic behaviour of operator semigroups, which are families of operators that correspond to solutions of differential equations. This work uses techniques from complex analysis, harmonic analysis and functional analysis, and it has applications for instance in the study of energy decay for damped wave equations. A description of some of my recent research can be found here. See my Departmental Profile page for a list of my publications.
