Professor Simon Whittaker

My undergraduate teaching was on consumer contract law with lectures and seminars comparing aspects of the English, French and German laws of contract and tort.

My research interests lie principally within the same areas as my teaching. So, some of my work is in English contract or tort law, for example, on controlling unfair contract terms in consumer contracts or in the tort of negligence, but recently my main interest has been to compare the way in which lawyers from different European legal systems deal with similar questions and on EU harmonisation of laws in these areas. To this end I have worked on French law in particular, but I have also collaborated with jurists from a number of other European countries.
