This Forbidden Fruit

Join John Mark Ainsley (tenor), Helen Roberts (cornett), and William Whitehead (organ) in a recital that brings to life music which might have been heard in the College chapel in the early 17th century, including music by Robert Lugge (Organist at St John's from 1635) and his father, John, Organist of Exeter Catherdral. Together with William Byrd, these composers trod the perilous borders between Protestantism and Cahtoliscism. Byrd's tribute to the Catholic martyr, Edmund Campion, will be heard alongside music that sat squarely in the Protestant tradition.
