What if….  Two words that are key to the creative act. Works by four artists are momentarily brought together in a flow of ideas and conversations across the gallery. The exhibited artworks use painting, print, moving image, sound and installation to ask: what if…?

What If

Tom Hunter reinterprets the signs and symbols that we use to locate ourselves by. Through the rearranging of ancient and contemporary semiotics, he raises questions about order and the absurd.

Caroline Macdonald is a printmaker, reimagining objects and images from antiquity and art history. For her this is a way of dealing with her personal past and the anxieties of our moment in history. She offers different ways to look at history with a hope of generating new meanings.

George Quiney is an artist and educator working primarily in the field of print. In his work he teases out and embellishes personal stories in order to interrogate his close relationships and deepest feelings.

Cally Shadbolt makes and flies kites to imagine poetic equivalents of air. Through an expanded notion of drawing, she develops dynamic translations of sound and light through material, process, and performance.
