Carles Falcó wins 2025 Reinhart Heinrich award
The European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ESMTB) awards the Reinhart-Heinrich Doctoral Thesis Award annually for the best doctoral thesis in the area of Mathematical and Theoretical Biology. The award is given in honour of the father of systems biology, Professor Reinhart Heinrich (1946 – 2006).
This year's recipient is Dr Carles Falcó, who completed his DPhil in Mathematics at St John's in 2025. Carles' doctoral thesis, 'Interactions and dynamics in collective cell behaviour', combined sophisticated mathematics with experimentally validated modelling to increase understanding of collective cell behaviour.
As the 2025 winner, Carles will be invited to give a talk at the European Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology in Graz, Austria, and a summary of his thesis will be published as the lead article in the society's next annual report.
Congratulations Carles!
