Dr Jenny Oliver to play at Common People music festival this weekend

Date 23 May 2017

When she’s not teaching and researching Early Modern French literature, Supernumerary Teaching Fellow Dr Jenny Oliver leads another, dungaree-clad, life playing bass with Lucy Leave, one of two local bands chosen to play on the main stage at Common People festival in Oxford this weekend.

Dr Jenny Oliver's band Lucy LeaveThis will be the band's biggest gig to date, after the group played on the ‘local bands’ stage at last summer’s Truck festival in Steventon. With their distinctive — and loud! — blend of noise-pop and jazz-grunge, they have twice been long-listed in Glastonbury's Emerging Talent Competition (2016 and 2017), and are described by BBC Oxford DJ Dave Gilyeat as ‘a crazy kind of wonderful’.

Lucy Leave are Jenny Oliver (bass/vocals), Mike Smith (guitar/vocals) and Pete Smith (drums/vocals). They will be playing tracks from their new EP ‘The Beauty of the World’, which will be launched in June, as part of their set.

Jenny says, 'I’m very excited to be playing on our biggest stage yet, and to be representing Oxford's brilliant local music scene, which we feel so lucky to be a part of. On the day, I will try to ignore the nerves and enjoy the experience as much as possible!'

You can catch Lucy Leave at Common People on Saturday 27 May at 11.30 am, tickets from the Common People website.
