St John's student Laura Boddy representing Oxford in Lightweight Women's Boat Race
She will be part of the first OUWLRC crew to race on the Tideway over the same Championship Course as the open-weight Oxford Cambridge Boat Races.
The Lightweight Boat Race, between the men's lightweight crews of Oxford and Cambridge, was founded in 1975 and raced over 2000 metres in Henley on Thames until 2018, when it moved to the Championship Course. The Lightweight Women's Boat Race became part of the Henley Boat Races in 1984 and this year, for the very first time, the race will also take place on the Tideway.
Cambridge are currently leading with 19 Lightweight Women's Boat Race wins to Oxford's 17, but Oxford have been dominant in recent years, winning 13 of the 20 races held so far since the Millennium. Having brought home the trophy in 2019 they will be looking to build on last year's success with another win this year.
The 37th Women's Lightweight Boat Race will take place at 3:50pm on Sunday 15 March. More information is available on the Lightweight Boat Races website, where you'll be able to watch a livestream of the race.
Very best of luck to Laura and the rest of the crew!
