Khadijah Ali is a second year studying German at St John's, and has recently been elected the JCR President for 2022-23.

We spoke to Khadijah to find out more about her life at St John's and how she would like to improve the JCR over the next year.

Khadijah_Ali_headshot.JPGWhat made you want to run for JCR President?

I ran for JCR President because I thought it would be a great way to get involved in student life at John's and I wanted to be a diplomatic, level-headed voice for the student body.

What are you hoping to achieve in your term as President?

There are a few things I would like to work on. Firstly, I am keen for more students to get involved in the wider community through volunteering such as by giving out food to homeless people. I would also like to revamp the student common room and display student artwork in the galleries.

What do you think the strengths of the St John’s JCR are?

The supportive atmosphere amongst the students and the community.

What do you get up to outside of studying?

I really love doing photography at events and for private shoots. I also spend a lot of time doing artwork, swimming, cooking, and spending time with my friends.

What’s your favourite memory of your time at St John’s so far?

My favourite memory has got to be matriculation last year. Even though it wasn't a normal year, I still celebrated with my friends and had my first punting experience, which has since become one of my favourite activities in the summer.

If you had to describe St John’s in three words, what would they be?

Generous, homely, and vibrant.
