The College warmly congratulates all members of St John’s who received awards in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2021.

Professor John KayOur congratulations go to:

  • Edward Ollard (1977, History), Lately Clerk of the Parliaments, Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath, for Services to Parliament;
  • Professor Adrian Hill (Former JRF in Medicine), Director of the Jenner Institute and Professor of Vaccinology and Human Genetics, University of Oxford, Honorary KBE, for services to science and public health;
  • Professor John Kay CBE (Emeritus Fellow in Economics), Knight Bachelor, for services to Economics, Finance and Business;
  • Eleanor Southwood (2000, PPE), Cabinet Member for Housing and Welfare Reform, London Borough of Brent, MBE, for services to charity and local government. 

Congratulations too to Imogen Cooper, Humanitas Visiting Professor in Classical Music and Music Education at St John's from 2012–13, who has been made a Dame of the British Empire. 

Commenting on his award Professor Kay said:

'I am humbled to receive this award, toward which so many people have helped. In fifty years in economics, finance and business, the College has always been central to my life.'
