International Women's Day 2025

On March 8th, we proudly hosted a vibrant, inspiring, slumber-party themed event in celebration of International Women’s Day. The evening was dedicated to creativity, connection, and empowerment, with over fifty students who attended.
Participants designed beautiful International Women Day t-shirts which offered opportunities for self-expression and reflection. Alongside the creative space, many attendees enjoyed the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations and build new connections in a welcoming and supportive environment. Complimentary pizza, snacks, and refreshments were also provided.
A highlight of the event was a talk from Kate Molesworth, Chair of the Women’s Network. Reflecting on her experiences at St John’s, where she was one of the few women from a state school background, Kate shared her journey of overcoming challenges and leading a fulfilling career around the world. From this inspiring talk, we learnt:
- To keep going even when times are tough.
- Not to be afraid even when life isn’t going as planned.
- Be courageous and explore opportunities.
- Pursue what we love.
- The St John’s Women’s Network is here to support us.
Overall, the heart-warming event allowed students to connect with their peers and learn more about the support networks available. I am grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to its success.
If you want to volunteer to speak to current students, why not get in touch via women@sjc.ox.ac.uk. We are keen to gather a network of contributors and potential speakers who can help us achieve our aims or inspiring, celebrating and empowering current students.
