  • Location The Barn Gallery, St John's College

The Florilegium has now been running for almost 15 years, supervised by Rosemary Wise in the Department of Biology. The objective is to produce botanical illustrations of a high standard, documenting the living collections of the Botanic garden, the Harcourt Arboretum and this year we have included the University Parks.

Ten very enthusiastic artists meet monthly and work in watercolour, graphite or coloured pencils, Each illustration is designed to be as comprehensive as possible showing flowers, fruits and dissections if necessary to clarify the species. Finished artwork is strictly judged by three botanists, if accepted they are donated to the archive, presently kept in the Department of Biology.

Our last exhibition, in 2021 at St John’s, focused on various themes. In this exhibition the arrangement will be more random, including some of the more unusual plants such as species of Nepenthes (pitcher plants) and the parasitic Orobanches from the botanic garden plus Crataegus from University Parks.
