  • Location Garden Quad Auditorium and Reception Room, St John's College, Oxford

St John’s has a remarkable collection of late medieval liturgical vestments and embroidery. These textiles are some of the finest surviving examples of their kind in England. It includes a rare set of vestments for the pre-Reformation High Mass, comprising a white satin cope embroidered with flowers and two white satin ‘dalmatics’ (tunics) edged with crimson velvet.

The vestments will be exhibited from 2–5pm in the Garden Quad Reception Room. All are very welcome to attend and no pre-booking is required.

The exhibition of the Laudian Vestments will be accompanied by a lecture by Dr Malcolm Vale, entitled 'A continuous - but nearly broken - thread: the story of the St John's textile collection'. Dr Vale is an Emeritus Fellow in History, and a specialist in the culture of late medieval northern Europe.

The lecture will begin at 2.30pm. Pre-booking via Eventbrite is recommended.
