What does the day involve?

The Mathematics and Computer Science Study Day is a day-long event that offers pupils the opportunity to find out about studying these two subjects at the University of Oxford. Pupils will attend academic taster sessions, receive a tour of St John’s College, and find out about the Mathematics and Computer Science undergraduate degree and application process from tutors and current students.

Highlights of the day include:

  • Academic taster sessions from Mathematics and Computer Science tutors.
  • A talk on what Mathematics and Computer Science courses at the University of Oxford have to offer, and how to apply
  • Interview and MAT advice sessions
  • A Q&A with tutors and current students
  • A tour of St John’s College

All entries received before the closing date will be considered, and pupils will be told the outcome of their application shortly after the closing date. Due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to confirm entries as they are received.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Mathematics and Computer Science Study Day is open to year 12 pupils at all non-selective state schools and sixth-form colleges in the UK who are studying Mathematics at A-level (or equivalent).

Selection is based on academic merit, using GCSE or National 5 performance. Pupils must be predicted to achieve at least AAA at A level or AAAAB/AAAAA in Scottish Highers (or equivalent). Where Pupils from the Scottish system can offer Advanced Highers we would expect AA (for two subjects) or AAB (for three subjects). Places are generally limited to two per school/college, although larger establishments may be offered more places.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to visit St John’s and see for yourself what we are able to offer to our undergraduate students. All events and resources are free to qualifying pupils, but students will need to pay for their travel to St Johns College in Oxford.
