The World's Music at Oxford is a project blending research into global musics with live performance. Concerts are open to all students of the University and members of the general public.

Mathias Pinto is a composer and guitarist with a Bachelor's degree in Music from the Porto Alegre Institute (IPA), and coordinator of Instituto Ling's Choro Workshop. In 2017 he released his debut album, entitled False Reveler (“Falso Folião”), and composed all songs for singer Nani Medeiros’s album Bravery (“Valentia”). In the same year, he participated in the International Choro Festival in the city of New York, USA. In 2018, along with flutist Ayres Potthoff, he participated of the Latin Flute Festival in Toronto, Canada, and acted as musical director of the film Plauto, a musical breath (“Plauto, um sopro musical”), about the life of Choro flutist Plauto Cruz, nominated to the Gramado Film Festival/Brazil. Last year Mathias set up the Porto Alegre Choro Orchestra, an ensemble of over 40 musicians dedicated to the choro repertoire.

As well as the concert, Mathias will also be offering a workshop for musicians interested in trying their hand at the Brazilian choro style. Bring your instruments – all welcome to participate and listen!

Space at the workshop is limited.
