St John’s hosts the two-day British Physics Olympiad Masterclass for Year 12 students
This event for more than 30 pupils from around the country who scored highly in the British Physics Olympiad offered an exciting opportunity for them to meet like-minded people and to:
- develop
their problem solving skills in physics
- undertake
interesting physics practicals
- learn
more about studying physics at University
- explore
possible career options in physics
- discover
more about cutting edge research in physics.
On arrival on 6 July, the pupils enjoyed a tour of the College followed by a problem-solving session, before dinner in Hall. After dinner was a talk on 'Thinking like an engineer'.
The students stayed overnight in College, and the following day attended lectures, practicals and information sessions in the Physics Department, rounded off with a session on admissions and a mock interview, with Professor Tony Weidberg of St John's.
