Caribbean food and discussion at a lively International Evening
Every term, College holds an International Formal Hall, in celebration of the food and culture of different countries and the diversity of our student community. It is organised by the JCR International Officer and International Representative with the help of College, the Catering Office and the JCR.
At this term's event, the theme was the Caribbean. A delicious menu was proposed by one of our JCR members, Cal Shearer, and included Jerk chicken or sweet potato kebabs with mango salsa, Saltfish and ackee with dumplings, rice and peas, and Sweet fired plantains with clotted cream.
Cal's mother, Ms Vicky Licorish, gave a thought-provoking speech about Caribbean culture and her experience of living in the UK. Ms Licorish produced the Emmy-award winning TV drama, Small Island, an adaptation of Andrea Levy's novel about the Windrush generation that came from the Caribbean to the UK.
Nicole Neo, the JCR International Representative, helped to organise the event and commented: 'It was a joy organising
this term's International Formal Hall, which was a great success! The delicious
meal, the great words of our guest speaker and the jovial atmosphere made for a
very memorable evening for everyone. We are grateful to College for their
strong support of these events, and look forward to continuing the success at the
next International Formal Hall.'
