On 21 September around 130 alumni returned to St John’s to attend the College Society Dinner.

The evening began with a talk by alumnus Dr Tom Crawford (2008, Mathematics), whose innovative approach to the communication of mathematics and the de-mystifying of its principles (including explaining Archimedes' theorem by questioning how many ping pong balls it would take to raise the Titanic), demonstrated how a different approach to the subject can bring it to life.  This was followed by an organ recital given by former President Sir Michael Scholar.

The President, Professor Maggie Snowling, took pleasure in welcoming back so many former students.  A four course dinner in Hall was followed by her speech in which she shared with them current developments such as the new Library and Study Centre and the College’s success in the 2018 Norrington Table.
