Congratulations to the St John’s women in the winning Varsity Match team

Date 13 December 2016

Third-year undergraduates Cecilia Peker and Jennifer Smith played in the winning Women’s Blues Rugby Team, in a thrilling match at Twickenham where the Oxford team beat Cambridge 3-0.

After recovering from the match, and the celebrations, Jennifer said,

‘I think what was really important for me was the fact that we won with our friends. The coaches and all the girls really made it a rugby family, and it was special to win at Twickenham with them.’

A group of 35 St John’s alumni and friends gathered to cheer on Oxford, at the Women’s match in the morning and the Men’s match in the afternoon. They enjoyed what were described as ‘the best seats in the house’, with an excellent view of the game and a chance to duck to avoid a stray ball!

‘I had a great time with fellow Alumni supporting the Oxford women's and men's teams as they played thrilling, closely-matched games.’ Paul Khoo (1973)

‘St Johns secured the best seats for a day of good company, copious food and drink and rugby. Altogether a great day out that I want to bring more people along for next year. Oxford's vocal support could do with more baritones and basses.’ Daryl Goodwin (1972)
