Emeritus Fellow Professor Joël Ouaknine awarded major ERC Synergy grant
The European Research Council (ERC) has recently awarded €571 million to 57 research groups addressing major scientific challenges. The ERC's Synergy Grants are intended to foster collaboration among outstanding researchers, enabling them to combine their expertise, knowledge and resources to push the boundaries of scientific discovery.
Professor Ouaknine's project, titled 'Dynamical and Arithmetical Model Checking (DynAMiCs)' was awarded a major Synergy Grant worth €7.5 million over six years. Professor Ouaknine leads the project as Coordinating Principal Investigator, supported by ProfessorsFlorian Luca (also MPI-SWS and Stellenbosch University in South Africa) and Valérie Berthé (CNRS). Positioned at the intersection between mathematics and theoretical computer science, 'DynAMiCs' aims to revolutionise the algorithmic theory of discrete linear dynamical systems and related formalisms, tackling longstanding open problems in the field. Further details about the project are available here.
St John's warmly congratulates Professor Ouaknine and his team on this prestigious research award and proudly recognises his service as Tutorial Fellow in Computer Science (2004–2016) and Domestic Bursar (2009–2016).
