Honorary Fellow becomes joint head of the Old Square Chambers’ Employment Group
Nadia Montraghi came up to St John’s in 1997 after attending a comprehensive school, Gosforth High, in Newcastle upon Tyne. Under the tutelage of Professor Mark Freedland, she was inspired to pursue a career in employment law.
After leaving St John’s, Nadia was awarded the prestigious Frank Knox Fellowship to study at Harvard Law School and Harvard University’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies where she obtained an LLM, the Dean’s Prize for Leadership, and a Human Rights Fellowship. She was placed top of the year in the Bar Finals at Gray’s Inn where she was a Bedingfield Scholar.
In 2004, Nadia took up practice at Old Square Chambers: a leading London set, specialising in employment, personal injury, clinical negligence and professional discipline and regulation.

Nadia took silk in 2023 and was elected an Honorary Fellow of St John’s in March 2024. (See the 2024 edition of the College magazine, TW, for notice of her election.)
As joint heads of the Old Square Employment Group, Nadia and Eleena Misra KC will lead the largest team of specialist employment barristers of any chambers in the country. In a joint statement on their appointment, they said
'We look forward to working dynamically with our clients and our membership to ensure that we best serve clients’ needs and the aspirations of our members, while continuing to provide excellence in advice, advocacy, and other related services. Our doors are always open.'
Congratulations, Nadia!
