Revd. Professor William Whyte appointed Honorary Canon of Christ Church Cathedral
Honorary Canons play a critical role in the Cathedral's College of Canons, offering their experience and wisdom in support of the Cathedral's mission.

The Diocese of Oxford commended William's long service as an associate minister in Wolvercote and Wytham, as well as his dedicated support for the clergy in Kidlington. The Diocese newsletter also highlighted William's wider contributions to church life, noting his membership of the Oxford Diocesan Advisory Committee, the Fabric Advisory Commission at Westminster Abbey, and chairmanship of the fabric committee at University Church in Oxford.
Beyond his church work, the Diocese praised William's wider contributions to heritage and history in Oxfordshire, noting his chairmanship of the Oxford Preservation Trust, the Victoria County History of Oxfordshire project, and the Oxford Historical Society.
In response to his appointment William said: “I was both delighted and embarrassed to hear the news. I was delighted because it is a really lovely thing and it is tremendous to think I will be more involved in the life of the cathedral. I do feel embarrassed, though, because I do not do nearly as much as so many other people who have not been recognised in this way.”
Hearty congratulations, William!
