On 30 June the College welcomed back alumni who matriculated in 2005-2006, for their first Gaudy Dinner.

The evening began with a drinks reception in the President’s Lodgings, followed by a four course meal in Hall.  The Gaudy Oration, a traditional speech in Latin, was given by current undergraduate classics student Olivia Buckley.

William Whyte, Vice President, presided, and gave a speech looking back at events in College, and all that was achieved, during the alumni’s time here. He noted their varied sporting triumphs, with league victories for squash, netball, football and badminton. The Women’s VIII’s won blades, securing their highest ever position. Academic achievement was also substantial, with a significant number of firsts, and the College reached the top of the Norrington Table.

These years also saw changes to College, with the arrival of new Fellows including William Whyte himself, as well as Carolyne Larrington, Rosalind Harding, Kate Doornik and Theresa Burt de Perera, among others. The College also changed physically, with the start of the building of Kendrew Quad.

Dinner was followed by Informal Dessert in the SCR, and then festivities continued in the College bar.

It was lovely to have our alumni back in College to celebrate their time here, all they achieved and the friendships they made. We look forward to seeing them again at future events, and at their next Gaudy!
