On 14 June College hosted school pupils, Oxford students and tutors for tea as part of the Women in Engineering outreach event.

As part of the celebrations of Women in Engineering Day on 23 June, the Department of Engineering Science held a day of activities and talks for prospective students.

Women in Engineering tea 2017Year 9 girls from local schools spent the morning in the lab exploring an engineering project and discussing the skills necessary for studying and working in Engineering. They then came to St John's for a College tour and to hear from some current students about life at Oxford, before they joined Oxford's Engineering academics for a celebratory tea in Hall. Here, biomedical engineer Professor Alison Noble spoke to them about her own career journey, and why engineering is such a worthwhile choice.

The girls then had the chance to mingle with current Engineering undergraduates, graduates, researchers and tutors, including St John's tutor Dr Priyanka Dhopade, to ask questions and hear their stories.
