Biography
Sir David Cannadine is Dodge Professor History at Princeton, having previously held positions at Cambridge, Columbia and London Universities. He is the author of twelve books, the editor or co-editor of thirteen books, and series editor of the hugely successful Penguin History of Britain. He was knighted for his services to scholarship. In addition to his distinguished academic career, Cannadine has also served as Chairman of the Trustees of the National Portrait Gallery, Commissioner of English Heritage, and as a trustee of a variety of influential organizations. He is a fellow of the British Academy, the Royal Historical Society, the Royal Society for Literature, the Society of Antiquaries, and the Historical Association. He holds honorary degrees from UEA, South Bank, Birmingham and Worcester and has won numerous prizes for his work, including the Tercentenary Medal of the Society of Antiquaries and the Norton Medlicott Medal of the Historical Association.
