College Lecturer in Biochemistry

St. John’s College invites applications for a fixed-term 1.0 FTE College Lectureship in Biochemistry. The postholder will help provide teaching in Biochemistry to undergraduates enrolled in the Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, and Medicine courses, and also become an integrated member of the academic community in College. The appointment is available for the period 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2028, with the possibility of an extension for one further and final year.

Biochemistry at St John’s

St John’s admits three undergraduates in Biochemistry each year to read the four-year course. This role will also involve teaching Biochemistry to Biomedical Sciences and Medical students, for which we admit three and six students, each year respectively.

The successful candidate will join a large and active team of medical and molecular scientists in the College including Fellows in Biochemistry (Prof Jason Schnell), Biomedical Sciences (Dr Sandra Campbell), Physiology (Profs Armin Lak and Zoltan Molnar), and Psychology (Profs Kate Nation and Laurence Hunt), in addition to early career researchers, postdoctoral fellows and visiting researchers. The post offers the opportunity to develop skills in teaching, research, and academic administration in a supportive environment. Our academic staff all play an active role in our established Access and Outreach programmes, which are a key component of the College's Strategic Plan.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary will be 1.0 FTE paid at the equivalent of University grade 7.1 currently £39,424 per annum including a pensionable Oxford University Weighting payment which will be paid in equal monthly instalments and pro-rated for part time appointments.
