The annual Founder's Lecture was created in 2005 as part of the 450th anniversary celebrations in College. The 2024 Founder's Lecture will be given by Catherine Mallyon (1981, Modern History), Honorary Fellow.

Reflecting on Realities - Cultural Leadership Now

Catherine will talk about current issues in cultural leadership, reflecting on them through the lens of her leadership experiences at the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Southbank Centre, and currently as Chair at the Birmingham Hippodrome. In particular she will highlight the constantly changing tensions that require thoughtful navigation in order to provide the maximum opportunities for people to experience the arts and cultural learning.

Catherine Mallyon

Catherine Mallyon was the Executive Director, a Governor and a Board member of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 2012-2023. Catherine is Chair of Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre Trust, a member of the National Council of Arts Council England, and on the Boards of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) and the West Midlands Combined Authority Cultural Leadership Board.  She is on the Advisory Council of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and of the Orchestra of the Swan, and chairs the Advisory Groups for the Bristol + Bath Creative Cluster and the Centre for Cultural Value, based at Leeds University.

The Founder's Lecture will take place at 5pm in the College Auditorium, and will be followed by a drinks reception in the Garden Quad Reception Room.
