Laudian Vestments

Join us for this term's display of the College's magnificent collection of medieval and early modern textiles, centred around an extraordinary selection of late medieval liturgical vestments. You can find out more about the Laudian Vestments here.

There will also be a display of College silver on the theme of 'Silver Bestiaries'.

St John’s has a very beautiful and historically important collection of silver. Some date from the late medieval period, but the majority post-dates the civil war of 1642 to 1651. The surviving collection is testament not only to the ceremonial life of the College with its hierarchies and feasts, but also the extraordinary craftsmanship of those who produced these pieces. Appealingly, many animal motifs feature in the array of silver owned by the College, and a small selection of these will be on display.
