Professor Richard Compton wins prestigious Electrochemistry Medal

Date 22 July 2025

Congratulations to Professor Richard Compton on being awarded the Frumkin Memorial Medal by the International Society of Electrochemistry.

The International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) may award the Frumkin Medal once every two years in recognition of the outstanding contribution of a living individual in the field of fundamental electrochemistry.

The award honours the late Professor Alexander N. Frumkin, the Soviet electrochemist credited with the fundamental theory of electrode reactions.

Professor Richard Compton

Professor Compton, Emeritus Research Fellow at St John's and formerly Tutor in Chemistry, will be awarded the Frumkin Medal for 2025 at the ISE's 76th annual meeting in September in Mainz, Germany.

The award is presented in recognition of Professor Compton's outstanding contributions to fundamental electrochemistry, including electroanalysis, photo-, sono- and spectro-electrochemistry, electrochemistry of room-temperature ionic liquids; single-entity electrochemistry; and the simulation and modeling of electron transfer and mass transport at electrified interfaces.
