Eleanor Eldridge
Biography
I am a legal academic, focussing on analytical jurisprudence in private law. I am presently in the final stages of a DPhil in Law at Christ Church, Oxford, which is generously supported by an Arts and Humanities Research Council (Open-Oxford-Cambridge DTP) Studentship and a titular Clarendon Scholarship. I have held a number of teaching positions, including a Stipendiary Lectureship at Christ Church.
Teaching
I deliver tutorials in Contract and Tort to St John's College undergraduates.
Research Interests
My research focusses on the concept of rights in private law and how analytical clarity might help us to resolve difficult doctrinal issues. I am particularly interested in the work of Wesley Newcomb Hohfeld, who was troubled by the indiscriminate use of the word 'right' to denote a range of distinct legal relations. My research builds on Hohfeld's insights and seeks to demonstrate the enduring usefulness of a Hohfeldian rights analysis to doctrinal private law.
