500 Women Scientists
It is free to join and a great way to network both locally and internationally, as the organisation builds communities through local ‘pods’ where members meet regularly, to build support systems, develop strategic initiatives, and take collective action. These communities can be particularly valuable for early-career researchers and professionals navigating new institutions or to those relocating to unfamiliar cities.
500 Women Scientists recently launched the Fellowship for the Future to recognize and amplify the role of women of colour in STEMM. The programme seeks to foster environments in which women from all backgrounds are supported and able to thrive.
As a member of the Zürich Pod, I can recommend 500 Women Scientists as a platform for meeting and organising events that promote collaboration and support for women in STEMM locally. For example, last year we held a joint event with the SJC Women’s Network presenting Alex Bollen’s book Motherdom reported in our December 2025 Newsletter.
I have seen first-hand the platform’s potential to drive meaningful change for women. Last year, our local pod’s WeAreShocked campaign held a Swiss institution accountable for persistent harassment in academia. The resulting press coverage led swiftly to policy changes and helped foster a safer environment for women academics.
Further information about the community, local pods, and fellowship opportunities can be found at the 500 Women Scientists website.
