Welcome to this edition of the SJC Women's Network eNewsletter

Welcome to the summer edition of the SJC Women’s Network newsletter. Summer for Oxford means elated students finishing their degrees and being doused in all manner of unspeakable things in trashings, the city is awash with swatches of alumni in black tie returning for gaudies, and tourists slowly plodding through the streets marvelling at it all.

In this edition of the newsletter, President of College, Professor Dame Sue Black, very generously and openly spoke with the Network about her personal reflections on her first two years at St John’s and her hopes for the future.

We offer a book review on The Authority Gap, an examination of why women are still taken less seriously than men and what we can do about it.  The Women’s Network offered a practical workshop on how Effective Meetings and Workshops, and you can read about the outcomes.

And we would like to warmly introduce our new Secretary Zoe Stockton, you can read more about Zoe’s background and her motivations for joining the network.

Looking ahead, on 5 September we are hosting summer networking drinks in Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese.  This quirky and historic pub was a regular haunt of literature giants such as Mark Twain, W.B. Yeats, Charles Dickens and Dr Samuel Johnson.  With a central location just off Fleet Street, we hope you will join us for our City late summer drinks to reconnect with old friends and new in this classic London institution.
