Welcome to this edition of the SJC Women's Network eNewsletter

Although we are in the middle of back to back heatwaves this summer, soon enough the autumn leaves will turn to rust and ochre. As we approach the start of Michaelmas 2026, read on to hear about St John’s Women’s Network news.

While we look ahead to a busy new academic year, we are particularly pleased to mark the 10th anniversary of the St John’s Women’s Network with a special programme of events on 19th September, bringing alumnae, students and friends of the Network together in College. There is a jam packed schedule of workshops creating space for women to connect, share stories and research, celebrate achievement, and support one another across generations and disciplines. This is followed by drinks and dinner in Hall. We hope this issue inspires you to get involved, reconnect with the Network and, above all, sparks conversations.

We hear from artists Ruth Swain and Paul Starns about Facing the Future, their moving portrait exhibition in Kendrew Barn, centred on people affected by breast cancer and their remarkable fundraising journey. We also welcome two new members of the Women’s Network Steering Group, the MCR Women’s and Gender Minorities Officers, Frances Jago, and Orla Hogan, who introduce themselves and share their perspectives on wellbeing and community at St John’s.

We look forward to bringing the St John’s women’s community together throughout the year, and seeing as many of you as possible on 19th September!
