Have you heard the one about the Irishman, Welshman, Englishwoman and Scotswoman?

They have all been (and are!) President's of St John's, one after the other, two men and two women.

It was a great pleasure for the College President, Professor Dame Sue Black, to gather with her predecessors (Dr Bill Hayes, Sir Michael Scholar and Professor Maggie Snowling) for a rather special photo in Hall recently!

Laura Smithson, Artist-in-Residence

In Trinity Term we welcomed Lara Smithson as Artist-in-Residence. Laura works across a variety of media, spanning drawing, costume, video, installation and sculpture.

The 2023 Mapleton-Bree prize for work in the Creative Arts

Many congratulations to Susan Kellaway (2021, Fine Art) and Mingyu Zhu  (2022, Interdisciplinary Bioscience) who are this year's joint winners! 

Boatman rowing for Myeloma UK and Papyrus

Boatman Jim Ronaldson and fellow rower Ian Davies will be completing in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge 2023 as the oldest pair to row 3000 miles across the Atlantic. 

Deputy Lodge Manager interviewed on BBC Radio Oxford

Deputy Lodge Manager, David Martin, was diagnosed with stage-2 bowel cancer last December. He was recently  interviewed by BBC Radio Oxford about participating in a clinical trial.

Disability and the Divine

A ground-breaking exhibition of pictures created by the artist Marc Bratcher (1991, Modern History) have been on display at Peterborough Cathedral. Marc's aim is to promote a conversation about disability and art both in relation to the historical record and contemporary issues. 

Girl Uprooted: A Memoir

Growing up, Lena Lee (2010, Human Sciences), never knew where she belonged. The daughter of a diplomat, she moved countries every three years, her world swinging between East and West. After struggling with her mental health, Lena wrote a deeply personal memoir about her global upbringing.

We are pleased to announce that we have improved our online booking system. Alumni can check availability, book and pay for rooms within Alumni House online. The new booking system is far more user-friendly and can be found on the Alumni Benefits page of our website.

To make a booking, you will need to enter a promotional code to identify yourself as an alumnus/a and this can be found in the monthly e-newsletter.
