President appointed to the Order of the Thistle
His Majesty The King has appointed Professor Baroness Black, President of St John's, to the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.
The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle represents the highest honour in Scotland. Revived by King James VII in 1687, the Order has a complement of sixteen Knights and Ladies.

New portrait of Professor James Maynard
The portrait was commissioned by the Governing Body of St John's College to celebrate the award of the Fields Medal in 2022 for Professor Maynard's ‘spectacular contributions in analytic number theory’.
An exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum presents the life a 17th-century Filipino slave in moving new engravings by the artist Pio Abad. ‘To Those Sitting in Darkness’ is an exhibition of new works by the artist Pio Abad at the Ashmolean Museum until 8 September 2024.
Professor Nikolaj Lübecker nominated for R. Gapper Book Prize
‘Twenty-First-Century Symbolism’ by Professor Lübecker has been nominated for the R. Gapper Book Prize. The winner will be announced at the Society for French Studies conference in Stirling at the beginning of July.
Self-assembling nanoparticles lead to strong polarized light emitter
An interdisciplinary team, led by Professor Robert Hoye, Tutorial Fellow in Chemistry at St John's, has developed devices that directly emit red linearly polarized light.

The annual Founder's Lecture will be held on Thursday 9 May 2024. This year's lecture will be given by Catherine Mallyon (1981, Modern History), Honorary Fellow and former Chief Executive of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
