New Fellows of the Royal Society 

The College is delighted to announce that the President, Professor Dame Sue Black, Professor James Maynard (Professor of Number Theory and Supernumerary Fellow) and Professor Myles Allen (Professor of Geosystem Science and Honorary Fellow) on their election as Fellows of the Royal Society.

Commenting on the honour, Professor Dame Sue Black said:

"All new Fellows of the Royal Society will say what an honour it is to be inducted into our national academy of science and I could not agree more. I have seen the Royal Society really challenge the boundaries between science and law, making our justice system one to be admired around the world and it genuinely gives me a true sense of pride to be a very small part of that process."

In Memoriam

Professor Dominic Kwiatkowski ​​

The College is sad to announce the death of Professor Dominic Kwiatkowski FRS FMedSci FRCP (1953-2023).

Professor Kwiatkowski specialised in global health and infectious disease research and was Professor of Genomics and Global Heath at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine.

Sir Alan Bailey KCB

The College regrets to announce the death of Sir Alan Bailey KCB BPhil (PPE, 1951), Honorary Fellow.

Sir Alan Bailey was a distiguished public servant. He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1982 and was made Knight Commander in 1986.

Professor Wilferd Madelung FBA

The College is sad to announce the death of Professor Wilferd Madelung FBA (1930-2023).

Emeritus Fellow and former Laudian Professor of Arabic (1968-1998), Professor Madelung was pre-eminent in the study of Islamic history and civilization.

Fellow awarded British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship

Many congratulations to Professor Ian Klinke, Fellow and Tutor in Geography, on the prestigious award. The Fellowship will support new research into contemporary German geopolitics. 

MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35 Europe

Professor Robert Hoye, Tutorial Fellow in Chemistry, recently had his pioneering work on developing sustainable semiconductors recognised by MIT. 

L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science UK

Congratulations to Dr Jane Coons, Supernumerary Teaching Fellow in Mathematics, on winning a L’Oréal–UNESCO for Women in Science UK and Ireland Rising Talents Award.

Grant awarded to develop next-generation optical techniques

Dr Chao He, Junior Research Fellow in Engineering Science, has been awarded a £1 million research grant to develop next-generation optical techniques for advance biomedical imaging.
