SJC Online: Maria Stewart: A Glimpse with Professor Brenda Stevenson

We are delighted to present the recording of our recent SJC Online event with Professor Brenda Stevenson, who introduced Maria Stewart as a 19th century revolutionary icon.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, we launched our SJC Online series to enable the Fellows of St John’s to connect with members of our community from wherever they are in the world.

On 3 June 2021, Professor Brenda Stevenson, incoming Hillary Clinton Chair of Women's History, introduced Maria Stewart as a 19th century revolutionary icon. Watch this recording to discover how a women like Maria Stewart found a way to move beyond her prescribed social "destiny" to create a public identity as an agent for revolutionary change.
