SJC Online: Medieval Memory and Nostalgia with Professor Hannah Skoda

We are delighted to present the recording of SJC Online: Medieval Memory and Nostalgia with Professor Hannah Skoda

The Development and Alumni Relations Office is pleased to present the recording of SJC Online: Medieval Memory and Nostalgia with Professor Hannah Skoda.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, we have launched our SJC Online series to enable the Fellows of St John’s to connect with members of our community from wherever they are in the world.

Professor Skoda explored ways in which people responded to deep structural change in the fourteenth century. It's a period which now resonates disturbingly with our own, punctuated as it was by the Black Death. People often responded with nostalgia to the sense that their lives were being turned upside-down. They yearned for a lost 'golden age', when life had seemed simpler, slower-paced, more predictable and more morally upright.

We would like to apologise for the poor audio and video quality of the recording at times; this was caused by a fault with the connection during the event.
